Spend your betting winnings wisely – Mahama tells youth
The flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his pledge to abolish the betting tax and E-Levy if he wins the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking to a gathering of supporters in Nkwabeng, within the Nkoranza South Constituency, during his tour of the Bono East Region, Mr. Mahama emphasized his party’s commitment to economic relief.
'We will remove the betting tax. For those who engage in betting, when you win, the government will no longer take a tax from your winnings,' Mr. Mahama stated.
However, he sounded a note of caution: 'If you win, spend your money wisely. Don’t waste it on unnecessary things—use it to improve your life in a meaningful way.'"
Mr. Mahama also renewed the NDC’s pledge to scrap the Electronic Levy (E-Levy), a tax on digital financial transactions that has been widely criticised since its introduction.
He assured that eliminating this tax would bring considerable relief to mobile money users nationwide.
“We will remove the E-Levy, so when you use your mobile money to make purchases, you won’t be charged that tax anymore,” he said.
