In a strongly worded statement, the Bono East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Suleman Mohammed Mustapha, has condemned Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, also known as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, for allegedly attempting to mislead the people of Techiman with disparaging remarks about the NDC’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.

Rev. Boateng, a prominent figure among the clergy, is reported to have criticized Mahama during his recent visit to Techiman, suggesting that the former president lacks Christian virtues and therefore should not receive public support in the upcoming election.

Mr Mohammed- Mustapha denounced Rev. Boateng’s statements, describing them as “lies and deceit,” aimed at influencing voters by questioning Mahama’s religious integrity.

“We unequivocally denounce Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng’s unscrupulous behaviour, as he sought to undermine the integrity and character of John Dramani Mahama,” Mohamaded-Mustapha stated, calling the reverend’s remarks a “clear act of desperation” and an attempt to manipulate voters on religious grounds.

Mohammed -Mustapha further criticized Rev. Boateng for his alleged involvement in criminal activities, accusing him of “dual identity” and financial misconduct in connection to the National Cathedral project, where Boateng is alleged to have mishandled over 2.5 million Ghana cedis.

He questioned Rev. Boateng’s credibility in moral matters, citing his implication in mismanagement and receiving unearned payments from public funds.

The NDC statement appealed to the people of Bono East and Ghanaians nationwide to ignore Rev. Boateng’s claims, asserting that his motivations are not based on genuine concerns for faith or national welfare but rather a calculated attempt to mislead.

“Rev. Boateng’s actions in Techiman are not motivated by genuine concerns for the Christian faith or the welfare of our nation.

Instead, they are a calculated attempt to mislead,” Mustapha added.

He also voiced the readiness of Ghanaians to support John Mahama, asserting that Mahama’s leadership embodies “honesty, compassion, and integrity.”

The statement also addressed the NDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability if voted into power. Mohammed -Mustapha reiterated that, under the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, titled "Resetting Ghana," the party pledges to conduct a thorough forensic audit into the alleged $58 million National Cathedral scandal. Following the audit, the NDC government plans to allow public input on the next steps for the stalled project.
