Tight race in Ablekuma North ahead of re-run as NPP leads by 48 votes
With just hours to go before the crucial re-run of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, the Electoral Commission (EC's ) completed a re-collation of results from the December 7, 2024, polls, revealing a razor-thin margin between the two leading parties. New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Following the joint re-collation exercise involving officials from the EC, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NPP's parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie leads with 32,512 votes, while the NDC’s candidate, Ewurabena Aubyn trails closely with 32,464 votes—a difference of just 48 votes.
The re-run, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, will take place in 19 polling stations where security concerns previously disrupted the collation process.
These polling stations collectively have over 6,000 registered voters, making the re-run a potentially decisive moment in determining the final outcome of the constituency’s parliamentary seat.
Both parties are expected to intensify efforts to secure victory in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched constituency battles in the country.
The EC has assured all stakeholders of a fair, transparent, and credible process as preparations near completion for the re-run.
