Vice President chairs Armed Forces Council

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Appointed as first female Chairperson of the Ghana Armed Forces Council
President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the newly constituted Armed Forces Council, with Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang serving as its chairperson. The council is mandated to provide strategic guidance on defence policy, military administration, and operational readiness, ensuring that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) remain well-equipped to safeguard national security.

The newly inaugurated seven-member council includes:

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang – Chairperson

Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Member

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Member

Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka – Member

Mr. Daniel Addo – Member

Mr. Fuseini Iddrisu – Member

Ms. Nancy Dakwa Ampofo – Member

 

With the Vice President at the helm, the council is expected to prioritize military modernization, improved welfare for personnel, and enhanced national security policies.

The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces through strategic reforms, ensuring they are well-positioned to address emerging security challenges.
