Voter roll: Push for forensic audit – NDC appeals to Asantehene, Peace council
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the National Peace Council, and other key stakeholders to press the Electoral Commission (EC) for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The party claims that discrepancies in the register threaten the integrity of the electoral process.
George Opare Addo, the NDC’s National Youth Organiser, issued this call during a demonstration on Tuesday.
He emphasised that ensuring a credible register is critical for a free and fair election and urged national leaders to support the demand for an audit.
“To the peace-loving Ghanaians, the chiefs of this country, the Otumfuo, and the many others who want to see a better Ghana. It is their call to duty. The Police Service, it is also your responsibility to see to it that the right things are done,” Mr. Addo stated.
He further called on the National Peace Council to act, warning that inaction could lead to potential electoral disputes.
“The Peace Council, don’t let us sound like a broken record. We are asking all of you that an audit is the rightful thing to do,” Mr. Addo said, pointing to a petition presented to the Eastern Regional EC office by the NDC’s regional chairman as a critical step in their efforts.
