What matters is my heart to serve not my entertainment background: John Dumelo to critics

John Dumelo has frowned on opinions questioning his political ambitions because of his entertainment background.
"I see it as a little bit disrespectful because you have lawyers, you have doctors, you have businessmen in Parliament,” the actor-turned-politician said.
"We even had hairdressers in parliament."
The agribusiness entrepreneur noted the indispensableness of entertainers to various enterprises in life, including political campaigns, and underlined what mattered the most in politics was a genuine desire to serve citizens.
"And so, for me, that stigma is just one of those things when people say it, I just laugh about it,” Dumelo told Andy Dosty in a Hitz FM interview.
“But all in all, it's for us to represent the people well.”
In a historic move, John Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, December 7, 2024, unseating the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan, with 47,560 to 39,214 votes.
MP-elect Dumelo is the first NDC MP in the constituency in 24 years.
