Congo delegation tours Margins ID, eyes Ghanacard as digital ID blueprint
A high-level delegation from the Republic of Congo recently concluded a study tour of the Margins ID Group’s facility, seeking insights from Ghana’s successful implementation of its national identification system, the Ghanacard.
The visit, led by Luc Missimbazi, Telco and Digital Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, included top executives from the country's telecommunications sector, including Mohammed Rufai, CEO of MTN Congo, and Christian Kajeneri, CEO of MTN Mobile Money Congo.
The delegation observed the complete card personalisation and production process at the Intelligent Card Production Systems (ICPS) plant, the state-of-the-art facility responsible for manufacturing the Ghanacard.
This engagement underscores the growing international recognition of the Ghanacard as a model for digital identity in Africa.
The Public-Private Partnership between the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the Margins ID Group is increasingly seen as a benchmark for other nations.
“We are honoured by the visit from the Republic of Congo and their interest in our work,” said Kakara Baiden, Managing Director of Margins ID Group.
“This collaboration is a testament to how African-led solutions can drive the continent’s digital transformation and advance the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.9, which aims to provide legal identity for all, including birth registration, by 2030.”
The Congolese delegation is the latest in a series of international visits, following recent study tours by officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Danish Embassy over the past three months.
The team from Congo commended Margins ID Group for its pioneering role in shaping Africa’s digital identity landscape, signalling potential knowledge-sharing partnerships as more countries on the continent seek to build robust, inclusive, and secure identity systems.
