Energy Minister reviews progress on gov't’s 1200MW thermal power initiative
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has held discussions with Ghana Thermal Power Limited, the special purpose vehicle established by government to oversee the implementation of the country’s 1200 megawatt thermal power project.
The engagement focused on assessing progress made so far on the initiative, which forms part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s power generation capacity and ensure long-term energy security.
During the meeting, officials of Ghana Thermal Power Limited briefed the Minister on ongoing preparatory works and implementation efforts aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable thermal power generation for the country.
According to Dr. Jinapor, the progress achieved so far demonstrates that the flagship project remains on course and is expected to play a significant role in transforming Ghana’s energy sector and supporting economic growth.
He reiterated government’s commitment to increasing electricity generation capacity to guarantee stable and uninterrupted power supply for industries, businesses, and households across the country.
The Minister further stressed that the initiative aligns with government’s broader vision of building a resilient, efficient, and future-ready energy sector capable of supporting national development and industrial expansion.
