GFZA, Data Protection Commission explore closer collaboration on data privacy compliance
The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has held discussions with the Data Protection Commission (DPC) aimed at strengthening cooperation in enforcing data protection and privacy laws among Free Zones Enterprises.
The meeting, held on 11th August 2025 at the GFZA offices, was hosted by the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and attended by the DPC’s Acting Executive Director, Dr. Arnold Kavaarpuo, who led the delegation.
Talks centred on opportunities to deepen collaboration, including facilitating the Commission’s engagement with Free Zones Enterprises during GFZA training programmes for newly licensed companies.
The GFZA CEO, Dr Mary Awusi, noted that while the Authority is already registered with the DPC, additional training for its officers would enhance capacity to safeguard data, protect privacy, and ensure full legal compliance.
Dr. Kavaarpuo affirmed the DPC’s commitment to a strong partnership, adding that closer ties would boost operational security, advance data protection policies, and promote a culture of compliance—creating an enabling environment for technology and innovation to thrive.
Present at the meeting were GFZA’s Deputy CEO for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, and other members of the management team.
Both institutions expressed optimism about the productive work ahead.
