The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has presented laptops to the Ministry of Communication Digital Technology and Innovations to support the nationwide rollout of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The presentation ceremony, held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Ministry’s conference room, forms part of efforts to equip the initiative with the digital tools required for effective implementation across the country.

The One Million Coders Programme is a flagship government initiative aimed at building digital skills among Ghanaian youth, enhancing employability, and positioning the country as a competitive player in the global digital economy.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, reaffirmed government’s commitment to digital transformation and inclusive access to technology.

He stressed the importance of partnerships and institutional support in achieving the programme’s objectives.

He disclosed that following the programme’s launch by President John Dramani Mahama, a technical team was tasked to assess its implementation framework and has since produced a comprehensive report to guide the training phase.

The Minister further highlighted the programme’s focus on job creation, noting that 130 training centres have been established nationwide, alongside partnerships with 12 universities in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Ghana.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Minister, Mohammed Adams Sukparu; the Administrator (CEO) of GIFEC, Tanko Rashid-Computer; Deputy Administrator Nana Akyaa Amoah-Amissah; and Director of Corporate Affairs, Francisca Adjei.

The laptops are expected to support training, coordination, and operational activities under the programme as it expands nationwide.

GIFEC said the intervention aligns with its mandate to promote universal access to electronic communications and digital inclusion, particularly in underserved and rural communities.

The rollout of the One Million Coders Programme is expected to accelerate Ghana’s digitalisation drive and equip a new generation of young people with critical technology skills.
