Ghana explores autonomous rapid transit system through China partnership
The delegation engaged the Chinese transport giant on potential strategic collaboration towards the development of an Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system for Ghana.
The discussions focused on studying and exploring the feasibility of introducing the ART system to improve intra-city transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and provide safer, faster, and more efficient public transport services for commuters.
Government says the initiative aligns with the broader vision of President John Dramani Mahama to reposition Ghana’s transport sector through innovation, sustainable infrastructure development, and strategic international partnerships.
Officials noted that the proposed transport system forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise public transportation and improve accessibility and convenience for residents in major urban centres.
The Ministry of Transport reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders and development partners to deliver reliable and modern transport solutions capable of supporting Ghana’s economic growth and improving the daily lives of citizens.
The visit to China also forms part of broader engagements aimed at deepening cooperation between Ghana and China in the areas of transport infrastructure and technology development.
