Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK announces upcoming Ghanacard registration in London
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, has announced plans to commence the registration of Ghanacards at the Ghana Embassy in London, following a working visit to the National Identification Authority (NIA) in Accra.
During her visit, Madam Benson held a fruitful meeting with the Executive Secretary of the NIA, Mr. Yayra Koku, and his team to finalise a collaboration aimed at extending the national identification registration to Ghanaians living in the UK and Ireland.
The new process will involve three simple steps:
Filling out the online application form.
Attending an online interview with the NIA team to verify nationality.
Visiting the Ghana Embassy in London to complete biometric capture and receive the Ghanacard.
In addition to the London-based registration, the High Commissioner revealed that discussions are underway to introduce mobile registration services, which will take the exercise to other cities across the UK and Ireland to serve the wider Ghanaian community.
“Commencement date shall be announced soon once all arrangements are complete.
Thank you, Yayra. I look forward to a successful collaboration between your Authority and our Mission,” Madam Benson said.
The initiative is expected to make it easier for Ghanaians in the diaspora to obtain their Ghanacards, which serve as the country’s primary identification document.
