Vice President opens new sanitary pad production line at Software Manufacturing
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has opened a new production line at Software Manufacturing Limited, a move set to significantly scale up local sanitary pad production and support government efforts to improve girls’ education and menstrual hygiene management.
The newly opened fourth production line increases the company’s annual output from 60 million to over 80 million packs of sanitary pads, strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity and creating additional jobs within the local economy.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Monday, the Vice President lauded Software Manufacturing Limited for its continued innovation and contribution to Ghana’s industrial development.
She noted that expanding local production aligns with the government’s broader agenda to promote domestic industry while ensuring access to essential health and hygiene products.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the government’s commitment to menstrual hygiene for schoolgirls, announcing that over GHS292 million has been allocated in the 2026 national budget for the provision of free, locally produced sanitary pads to schoolgirls across the country.
She described the initiative as a critical intervention to support girls’ education, reduce absenteeism, and promote dignity and well-being.
The Vice President emphasised that partnerships between government and local manufacturers, such as Software Manufacturing Limited, are key to achieving inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainable industrialisation.
The expansion of the production facility is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting national demand for sanitary pads while reinforcing the government’s directive to prioritise locally manufactured goods in public procurement.
The event was attended by government officials, industry stakeholders, and representatives of Software Manufacturing Limited, who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting national development through innovation and local production.
