Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah appointed CEO of Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Digital Chamber of Ghana

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) and the Digital Chamber of Ghana (DCG) have jointly announced the appointment of Mrs. Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah as their new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025.
Her appointment marks a new era of leadership in Ghana’s telecom and digital sectors, following the conclusion of Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey’s eight-year tenure in June 2025.
With close to 20 years of leadership experience across telecommunications, digital services, and fast-moving consumer goods, Mrs. Owusu-Ankomah brings deep expertise and strategic vision to the role.
She has held senior positions at MTN Ghana, Tigo (Millicom Ghana), AirtelTigo (AT Ghana), and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, where she consistently led transformational projects and strengthened collaboration between industry players and the government.
At MTN Ghana, she was instrumental in securing the 3G license and submarine cable landing rights, initiatives that solidified MTN’s dominance in Ghana’s data market.
Later, at AirtelTigo, she provided executive leadership during one of Ghana’s most complex mergers, overseeing regulatory approvals, stakeholder engagement, and post-merger integration.
She also supported the company’s acquisition of an Electronic Money Issuer (EMI) license from the Bank of Ghana.
Her regulatory and policy influence is reflected in her previous service as a Council Member of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, where she contributed to governance and advocacy.
She has also served as a trustee of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) and as an advisory board member of the Ghana Innovation Hub, advancing digital inclusion and entrepreneurship.
Most recently, as Director of Corporate Relations at Guinness Ghana, she led public policy advocacy, sustainability efforts, and reputation management.
Under her leadership, the company safeguarded its operating license, expanded local sourcing initiatives, and advanced sustainability programmes.
Welcoming her appointment, Stephen Blewett, Chair of the Governing Council of the Chamber and CEO of MTN Ghana, described the transition as “an exciting new chapter for the Chamber.”
“Her deep roots in the telecom sector, coupled with her proven ability to unite stakeholders and deliver tangible results, position her perfectly to lead the industry Chamber into its next phase of digital growth and innovation,” he said.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Owusu-Ankomah emphasised inclusivity, innovation, and collaboration as her top priorities.
“I am humbled to lead the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Digital Chamber of Ghana at such a defining time for Ghana’s digital journey.
My mandate is clear – strengthening collaboration across government, industry, and consumers.
Together with our members, we will advocate for policies that enable inclusive and sustainable growth, safeguard critical infrastructure, empower innovation, and ensure Ghana remains at the forefront of Africa’s digital renaissance.”
Mrs. Owusu-Ankomah holds an MBA in Management from Coventry University (UK), a certification in Public Policy Analysis from the London School of Economics, and a certification in Leading Sustainable Corporations from the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.
Her appointment signals the Chamber’s continued commitment to strong and visionary leadership at a time when Ghana’s digital economy is expanding rapidly and regulatory reforms are reshaping the future of telecommunications.
