WhatsApp to introduce usernames later this year
WhatsApp says it will introduce usernames later this year, allowing users to connect without sharing their phone numbers.
In a post on Facebook, the verified WhatsApp page said the change means asking "What's your number?" could soon become "What's your WhatsApp?" as usernames become available on the messaging platform.
The company also announced that users will be able to reserve their preferred username from this week.
To reserve a username, users should go to Settings > Account > Username in the WhatsApp app.
Meta said the feature will be rolled out later this year.
