A 'striking' solo goal by Mohammed Kudus earns him FIFA Puskás nomination
A goal by Ghana international Mohammed Kudus for his West Ham United side has made him a FIFA Puskás Award nominee.
The sensational strike from last season was a blow to Freiburg.
During the Europa League quarter-finals, the left-footed star, starting from his side's end of the field, manoeuvred a large group of Freiburg players, including three defenders, and with his weaker foot eventually found the net and glory.
The goal which was identified as the Hammers' goal of the season, had more significance as it was the first of two goals from Kudus that day to cap the team's 5:0 pounding of Freiburg.
Now, it has earned Kudus a Puskás nomination.
Kudus is competing against Nigeria's Paul Onauchu, Uganda's Dennis Omedi, and Algeria's Yassine Benzia.
Other competitors are: Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, Hassan Al Haydos of Qatar, Inter Milan's Federico DiMarco, Terry Antonis of Australia, Walter Bou of Argentina, Michaell Chirinos of Honduras and Hull City's Jaden Philogene.
The winner honoured at the FIFA Awards come January 2025.
Established in October 2009, the annual FIFA Puskás Award recognises, by voting, a male or female player who scores the most artistic or ‘most beautiful’, goal of the reviewed year.
