Agbana rejects claims of World Cup travel slots for Majority MPs, demands evidence
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has rejected claims that the government allocated slots to Majority MPs to send supporters to the FIFA World Cup, describing the allegation as false.
His comments follow claims by Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu that President John Dramani Mahama had allocated slots to Members of Parliament and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to facilitate the travel of supporters to cheer on the Black Stars at the tournament.
Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on June 10, 2026, Agbana said no Member of Parliament from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been given any such allocation.
He challenged Habib Iddrisu to provide evidence to support the allegation, insisting that the claim was untrue.
According to Agbana, the government had already announced that no public funds would be used to airlift supporters to the World Cup. He explained that a fundraising exercise had instead been organised to attract support from private individuals and organisations.
He said any Ghanaian attending the tournament through such arrangements would be sponsored privately and not with state funds.
Agbana further argued that the allegation may have been influenced by practices under previous administrations, where public funds were used to support travel for football supporters.
He maintained that no Majority MP had been allocated slots to take supporters to the World Cup and reiterated his call for evidence to substantiate the claim.
