Army Ladies FC win first-ever Women’s FA Cup final
Army Ladies clinched the Women's FA Cup title after a thrilling 1-0 win over Police Ladies on Saturday June 8, 2024 in Accra.
Deborah Opoku scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute to hand Army Ladies their first ever FA Cup crown .
Both teams sold out an entertaining match at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
It was Police Ladies who came out of their blocks quickly in the early exchanges, with a dominant performance infront of a decent crowd.
But the first half failed to produce goals as the two teams spurned several opportunities.
However, Deborah Opoku scored what proved to be the match winner when she slotted home from close range for Army Ladies five minutes into the second half.
Police Ladies made several attempts at goal, coming close on numerous occasions but the lack of cutting edge in the final third denied them the equaliser.
Army Ladies put up an impressive defensive display to thwart their efforts as Police Ladies to emerge victorious at the University of Ghana.
The two distinguished teams impressed but it was Army Ladies, who has the last laugh in an absorbing contest.
By this feat, Army Ladies wins the title for the first time and grab the bragging rights over their counterparts.
