Doctor visits recovering Salisu in Monaco ahead of Black Stars’ World Cup campaign
Black Stars team doctor Prince Pambo has visited defender Mohammed Salisu in Monaco, as part of ongoing efforts to support injured players ahead of Ghana’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup in June.
Salisu, an important member of the squad, is currently undergoing rehabilitation after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Monaco’s French Ligue 1 clash with Olympique Lyon in January.
The centre-back played in seven FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Ghana, scoring twice as the Black Stars secured qualification for the tournament to be staged in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Prior to the setback, Salisu had established himself as a regular starter for Monaco, stepping in for Eric Dier and Soungoutou Magassa. His performances strengthened the team’s defence and underlined his growing importance at the club.
The former Southampton defender made his Ghana debut on September 23, 2022, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-0 friendly loss to Brazil. He netted his first international goal in a 2-0 friendly victory over Switzerland on November 17, 2022.
Dr. Pambo is expected to continue his player visits in France, with Francis Abu next on his schedule on Wednesday.
Ghana is intensifying preparations for the World Cup, with efforts focused on ensuring all players are fully fit for the global tournament. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in the other Group L fixtures.
