The Dr. Grace Community League (GCL) has evolved beyond a traditional football competition into a structured youth development platform, creating new opportunities for young people across the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region.

Over a three-month period, 24 communities, including Agric, Essipon, Benyakrom, and Nchaban Nkwanta, competed in organised fixtures that provided each participant with 90 minutes on a regulated platform to showcase their talent.

Unlike informal street football, the league offered professional officiating, structured competition, and exposure to large community audiences.

This year’s edition recorded a major milestone with the presence of licensed football agents and professional scouts, who attended matches to identify and assess emerging talent.

This development has opened direct pathways for young players in the constituency to access professional trials, evaluations, and potential contract opportunities at both national and international levels.

Beyond football, organisers say the initiative has delivered significant social impact by reducing youth idleness and promoting discipline, teamwork, and responsibility among participants.

The league has also strengthened community pride and unity across participating towns.

Communities including Bakado, Fijia, Diabene, Essikado, Ketan, Mpintsin, Essipon, and Kojokrom competed under a shared platform, with on-field rivalries fostering stronger social bonds off the pitch.

The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to use sports as a tool for youth development and social cohesion.

Organisers of GCL2026 say the project demonstrates that strategic investment in grassroots sports can serve as a pathway to opportunity, discipline, and long-term development for young people in Essikado-Ketan.
