FIFA WC 2026: Sports Minister Kofi Adams flags Croatia threat as Ghana eye Group L challenge
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed concern about Ghana’s Group L encounter with Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the European side as a particularly dangerous opponent.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L, and will take on Panama, England and Croatia, in that order. Remarking on the group, Mr Adams singled out Croatia for their tactical versatility, and its implications in a match against the Ghana Black Stars.
“Everybody knows how dangerous Croatia have been in the previous World Cups. They have had different strategies. It doesn’t necessarily mean we should go and read their previous strategies as part of our preparation. They are a team that can change their style about three times within 90 minutes of play,” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, marking the first-ever 48-team tournament. A total of 104 matches will be played, with Africa receiving a record 9 automatic qualification slots.
The tournament will also mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars previously featured in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions, with their best performance coming in South Africa in 2010, where they reached the quarterfinals.
