GFA president engages US Chamber of Commerce as Ghana steps up 2026 FIFA WC preparations
As part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Simeon-Okraku has held high-level discussions with the leadership of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.
The talks, which explored areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration, saw Mr Simeon-Okraku meet with Rick C. Wade, Senior Vice President for Strategic Alliances and Outreach at the US Chamber of Commerce, and Dr Guevera Yao, Vice President of the US-Africa Business Center.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the tournament set to kick off in June 2026. Ghana has been drawn in Group L, where the Black Stars will face Panama, England and Croatia.
While in the US, Mr Simeon-Okraku has had discussions with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, and his team, as well as officials from the State of Maryland. Prior to these engagements, the CAF Second Vice President paid a visit to Destination DC as part of the outreach activities.
According to the GFA president, his engagements form part of a broader strategy to build strong international partnerships to support Ghana’s World Cup campaign both on and off the pitch.
Key areas of focus include institutional cooperation, commercial opportunities, fan engagement, logistics, and leveraging the World Cup as a platform to expand Ghana’s economic and cultural footprint across North America.
