Ghana valiantly hold England to goalless draw in Group L clash
Ghana put up a strong defensive display to secure a 0-0 draw against England in their second Group L match at the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
There were clear opportunities for both sides at the Boston Stadium, but neither team was able to convert them. Ghana Black Stars was particularly protected by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The result leaves both Ghana and England on four points in the group.
England Head Coach Thomas Tuchel lamented his side's missed chances, particularly a second-half opportunity for Harry Kane in front of the Ghana goal.
He also noted that Ghana "went more defensive than the first match" against Panama, which they won in the 95th minute.
"They went 4-5-1," he underlined.
"We had them, found our rhythm but it was okay."
Tuchel declined to comment on England's next game against Panama, saying "it's in four days".
Former England captain John Terry, speaking in another post-match interview, disclosed that he had predicted a 2-1 win for England against Ghana.
Assessing the match, however, he described Ghana as "very solid, very together," a performance captained by Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey, in that order.
He commended Partey in particular for standing at the back and helping to marshal the defence.
However, he urged Ghana to focus on being more effective in attack, cautioning that Carlos Queiroz's boys cannot progress while relying on a low-block strategy.
Looking ahead, Terry said England is "gonna beat Panana and top the group."
