Gov't inaugurates 11-member committee to oversee Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign
The government has inaugurated an 11-member committee to steer Ghana’s preparation and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with legendary football icon Abedi Pele Ayew featured prominently among its members.
The committee—constituted by the Presidency and inaugurated by the Chief of Staff—brings together top government officials, key sector ministers, and sports administrators, including the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku.
The inclusion of Abedi Pele, widely celebrated as one of Ghana’s greatest footballers, is expected to provide invaluable technical insight and strategic direction as the Black Stars aim to secure qualification and excel at the global tournament.
The mandate of the committee includes coordinating resources, formulating strategic plans, and ensuring smooth collaboration among all stakeholders involved in Ghana’s World Cup project.
Officials say the group will work closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the GFA, and the technical team of the Black Stars to deliver a comprehensive roadmap towards qualification.
The inauguration marks a significant step in Ghana’s early preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The committee is expected to commence work immediately.
