I'm not affiliated to any political party, my focus is on youth empowerment – Asamoah Gyan
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has reiterated his independence from political influence, emphasising his commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth through football and philanthropy.
Speaking as Chairman of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, he outlined his vision to create opportunities for young people across the country, regardless of their background.
In a statement issued by the Foundation, Gyan made it clear: “This is not about politics, I am fully independent from political influence. This is about our children, our communities, and our continent. Together, with the support of international organisations, royal families, and philanthropic partners, we can create lasting change that empowers our youth to build the future they deserve.”
Reflecting on his personal journey, Gyan credited sports with saving him and giving him a sense of purpose.
“I want every young person, no matter their background, to have that same opportunity to realise their greatness,” he said.
He further highlighted the broader mission of his foundation, stating, “This mission is about hope and opening doors for those who feel left behind, giving them the belief that their dreams are possible.”
Gyan also underscored his belief in the unifying power of sports, adding, “I believe that sports can unite and inspire us in powerful ways.”
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan formally dissociated himself from any political party and wished all parties well ahead of the upcoming December 7 elections.
“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth I am not affiliated to any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the December 7 elections. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” Gyan said.
In February 2024, just after Asamoah Gyan attended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign launch, the NPP Presidential Candidate and Vice President, Gyan was named chairman of Bawumia’s Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee.
Additionally, last month, Gyan joined the Vice President for a campaign walk in Akropong, Eastern Region.
