Morocco's Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports has denied reports circulating in the media and on social media attributing comments to Minister Mohamed Saad Berrada suggesting that Morocco does not represent Africa.

In an official statement, the Ministry said claims that the Minister stated "Morocco does not represent Africa", that "the national football team represents only Morocco, not Africa", and that "Morocco does not need Africa's support" are false.

The Ministry said Mr Berrada "categorically denies these claims" and affirmed that the statements attributed to him are "entirely false and unfounded".

It further stated that the Minister had not made any comments to any media outlet on the matter and that all statements currently being circulated in his name were fabricated and did not reflect either his personal position or the official position of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The statement reaffirmed Morocco's pride in its African identity, describing the country's historical, human and cultural ties with other African nations as a fundamental pillar of its national policy under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

The Ministry also called on media organisations and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it.

It added that the Minister reserves the right to take appropriate legal action against anyone who publishes false information or falsely attributes statements to him.
