Rose Yeboah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have secured their places in the track and field events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Rose Yeboah made history by breaking the women's high jump national record with a leap of 1.97m, qualifying her for the Olympics and winning the 2024 NCAA D1 national title in High Jump. She is the first female Ghanaian athlete to win an NCAA D1 national title.

In another significant achievement, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu met the Olympic Qualifying Standard Time. Saminu’s 20.12 seconds in the 200m dash set a new program record, making him Olympic-eligible for Ghana.

Additionally, he finished fifth in the 100m dash with a personal best non-wind-aided time of 10.02 seconds.

The University of South Florida celebrated a standout year with Saminu earning two First Team All-American awards within 45 minutes. His performance in the 200m dash not only met the Olympic qualifying standard time but also set a program record (20.12 seconds). This capped a year marked by the program's first-ever indoor and outdoor men’s conference championships, a program-record 33 athletes in the NCAA First Round, and a program-record 12 athletes in the NCAA Semifinals.

Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Erik Jenkins expressed pride in the team's achievements, highlighting the effort that led to two Men’s AAC team championships, record finishes for the women’s team in the AAC championship, multiple school records, numerous All-American accolades, and a second consecutive top-30 finish for the men at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.

Saminu's roommate, Goodness Iredia, also earned First Team All-American honors, finishing seventh in the long jump (7.86m / 25′ – 9.5″). Overall, the men's team finished 26th in the NCAA Championship Meet, earning 12 points, with 10 points coming from Saminu’s performances and two points from Iredia’s long jump.
