The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he has not received any formal resignation from Carlos Queiroz despite speculation triggered by the coach's recent social media post.

Speaking on News Night on Joy FM on 6 July, Mr Adams said the future of the Black Stars coach could not be determined by a social media message, stressing that any resignation must be communicated through the appropriate official channels.

“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don't take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn't appointed on social media, so I don't think that he resigned via social media,” he said.

Speculation about Queiroz's future intensified after he posted a message suggesting his time with the national team had come to an end. In the post, he said he was leaving “this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more”.

The Portuguese coach also stated that sustained success for the Black Stars would depend not only on performances on the pitch but also on creating the right structures to prepare, protect and develop Ghana's football talent.

Mr Adams said he was yet to hold detailed discussions with Queiroz following Ghana's campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He explained that the coach is expected to submit a comprehensive report covering the team's preparations, performances and challenges during his tenure.

“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity of engaging him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he said.

According to the Minister, the report will provide an assessment of both the technical and administrative issues affecting the national team and help shape future planning.

He said he agreed with Queiroz's view that the Black Stars' progress would depend on improvements both on and off the pitch.

“And he's right when he says it's not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues and there are on-pitch issues also. I'm happy he has stated it clearly,” he said.

Mr Adams added that he expected the coach's report to identify challenges in both areas and recommend measures to strengthen the national team.

Queiroz was appointed Black Stars head coach on 23 April 2026 following the departure of Otto Addo and was tasked with leading Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Sports Minister had previously indicated that Queiroz's appointment was on a short-term contract of up to four months, with any extension dependent on his performance.
