In a move aimed at promoting community development and youth empowerment, the Ministry for Sports and Recreation has held a high-level meeting with the Akyem Kotoku State and representatives of Zi Jin Golden Ridge Ltd to discuss the proposed construction of the Akim Oda Sports Stadium.

The meeting was led by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, alongside a delegation from the Akyem Kotoku State headed by His Majesty Osadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV.

Other members of the traditional delegation included Kwarko Aning (Secretary), Osabarima Ankomah Bempong, Obrempong Tabi Anom, and Nana Ama Agyeiwaa Agyekumwaa.

Representatives of Zi Jin Golden Ridge Ltd were led by Mr Jason Zhang, Vice President in charge of Sustainable and External Relations.

The engagement focused on plans for the construction of the Akim Oda Sports Stadium, a project expected to deliver significant social and economic benefits to the region, including job creation and expanded opportunities for youth development through sports.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Kofi Adams highlighted the transformative potential of the project, describing sports infrastructure as a catalyst for community growth.

“Building this stadium will create jobs and unlock economic opportunities for the community.

Sports is a powerful tool for development—it nurtures the youth, promotes healthy lifestyles and fosters unity,” he said.

His Majesty Osadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV expressed strong support for the initiative, stressing the need for environmental sustainability, cultural respect and inclusivity in the execution of the project.

“The welfare of the community and the preservation of our heritage must be at the heart of this development.

This stadium is more than a sports facility; it is a symbol of progress and unity,” he stated.

The traditional ruler also welcomed Zi Jin Golden Ridge Ltd as a key stakeholder, noting the company’s potential to contribute meaningfully to local development beyond its mining operations.

For his part, Mr Jason Zhang reaffirmed Zi Jin Golden Ridge Ltd’s commitment to community development and sustainable partnerships.

“We are committed to making a meaningful impact in Akyem Oda.

We look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure this project benefits the entire community and leaves a lasting legacy,” he said.

 

Stakeholders at the meeting described the engagement as a significant step toward the transformation of Akyem Oda, with the proposed stadium expected to serve as a hub for sports, youth engagement and community cohesion.
