Thomas Tuchel sets sights on Euro 2028 following England's defeat to Argentina
England manager Thomas Tuchel is brushing off rumors about his job security despite a devastating World Cup exit.
The Three Lions' dream of reaching the final was shattered in a 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina despite taking a 55th-minute lead thanks to a goal from Anthony Gordon.
Directly after Gordon's goal, Tuchel made a series of highly criticized, defensive substitutions in an attempt to hold onto the 1-0 lead.
The tactics backfired immediately.
Argentina quickly took control of the game with Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez both scoring to snatch the victory for the South American side.
This tactical collapse sparked widespread outrage.
Fans and pundits including former player Jamie O’Hara have publicly called for Tuchel to be sacked.
However, Tuchel remains completely unfazed about his future, pointing to his contract which runs through the next major tournament.
He emphasised that his immediate focus is on the upcoming bronze medal match against France on Saturday, July 18, and that he fully expects to lead the team into Euro 2028 which will be hosted on home soil by England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
"There is still a match to play against France on Saturday, July 18, for the bronze medal game and of course, we keep on going with the contract until the home Euros, and I’m looking forward to that."
