'We didn't learn from the first game' – Otto Addo regrets, asserts Black Stars must win against Sudan
Black Stars Coach Otto Addo has regretted his team noted no lessons from their first African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers match and so fumbled their second game.
The Black Stars played against Angola on Thursday, September 5, 2024, in Kumasi, Ghana. They lost by 1:0, ending a 24-year home record of being undefeated. On Monday, September 9, the Ghana national senior male football team played against Niger in Berkane, Morocco, seeing a minimal improvement by the final whistle, 1:1.
In a post-match interview, Otto Addo said: "We're under pressure. I'm disappointed we didn't learn the lessons from the first game. I'm really disappointed."
He acknowledged progressing out of Group F and eventually qualifying for the AFCON 2025 tournament was "surely still in our own hands," and "we can do something about it".
Otto Addo emphasised, however, against all odds, "we have to win the next game" against Sudan.
After two games, Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, has only one point and sits at third place in their group.
