Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari dies at 82

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away at the age of 82.
His death was confirmed by his former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, who stated that the ex-president died at a hospital in London.
Buhari, a former military general, first led Nigeria as a military head of state in the 1980s.
He later returned to power as a democratically elected president, serving two terms from 2015 to 2023, following the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999.
His military government was overthrown in 1985 by then-General Ibrahim Babangida.
Despite the setback, Buhari remained a significant figure in Nigerian politics for decades.
He passed away two years after leaving office.
In accordance with Islamic customs, he will be buried under Islamic rites, with leading politicians and key figures expected to pay their respects to his family.
