A lawyer and member of the All People's Congress (APC), Vincent Asien, has called on Nigerian President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubuʼs administration to initiate policies aimed at reducing imports into Nigeria.

“The new Nigerian leadership must work towards reducing the import of products which are produced in Nigeria. This is the only way we can help boost the country's economy,” Vincent Asien said.

He made the call in a zoom interview with Korku Lumor on the Class Morning Show on Class 91.3 FM, Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

According to him, President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the best person Nigeria needs at the moment to help restore national unity and investor confidence.

“Bola Tinubu resonates with a wide majority of Nigerians. The spread of his victory is a testament to this and can unify Nigerians. He brings in a new agenda of hope for the country,” Asien remarked.  

“He has the ability to bring in the much needed investment and the investment community the country needs,” he added.

He hinted at plans by the Tinubu administration to embark on intensive private sector-led initiatives, particularly in petroleum.

“Nigeria is a major petroleum producing country. Therefore, we should be able to rope in the private sector to manage our public refineries as well as support private owned oil refineries, to revive local production capacities,” he noted.

Vincent Asien called for more efforts to help solve the unemployment situation in Nigeria.

“The world is challenged with the Russia-Ukraine War and the Covid-19 pandemic which have had negative impacts on all economies. This has created massive job losses and visited unemployment on too many Nigerians. We must work at providing solutions to these issues,” he concluded.
