Traders from the Kwadaso Onion Market in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti region find themselves in a state of uncertainty after being forcibly evicted from their previous market by the Regional Security Council.

The eviction has left over 3,000 traders stranded, as the allocated relocation site is not enough to accommodate their numbers.

Despite being directed to relocate to the Atwima Takyiman market, the traders have expressed dissatisfaction with the new location, citing its limited space.

The market, which boasts only 18 sheds, pales in comparison to their former market, which housed 150 sheds. This shortfall in infrastructure has rendered the new site inadequate to meet the needs of the displaced traders.

To mitigate potential conflicts arising from the shortage of sheds, the Public Relations Officer for the affected traders, Solomon Kofi Abanga, revealed that they have advised their members against moving into the new market.

Instead, they are actively seeking land for the development of a new market facility that can adequately accommodate their businesses without causing friction among traders.

In an interview with Class FM's Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Elisha Adarkwah, Mr. Abanga expressed disappointment over the circumstances surrounding their eviction. He raised concern over the financial impact on traders, particularly those who relied on credit transactions with customers, fearing that many may abscond with outstanding debts, leaving the traders in a precarious financial situation.
