C/R: Planned power outage to hit Cape Coast on January 8
Residents of Cape Coast and nearby communities in the Central Region will experience a scheduled power outage on Thursday, January 8, 2026, as engineers undertake major upgrade works at the Cape Coast Substation.
The power interruption, which will run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., forms part of efforts to improve the reliability and stability of the electricity supply in the area.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the shutdown will enable engineers to replace the existing 33MVA transformer with a higher-capacity 66MVA transformer at the substation.
The Ministry made this announcement in a statement released on Tuesday evening and signed by Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson and Head of Communications for the Ministry.
The upgrade is expected to significantly enhance power distribution capacity and reduce outages once completed.
Authorities have appealed to residents and businesses to bear with the inconvenience, assuring the public that the works are necessary to ensure a more stable and efficient power supply in the long term.
