International livestock market launched in Volivo to boost trade and create 500 jobs
The Lower Volta Association of Small-Scale Miners and Farmers (LASMF) has launched an international livestock market at Volivo in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.
The project aims to enhance trade, investment, and employment opportunities in Ghana's livestock industry.
The initiative, structured around 11 thematic areas, will focus on expanding the livestock value chain, stimulating trade, and enhancing stakeholder engagement.
According to LASMF Founder, Godwin Awudzi, the project's strategic location near water bodies and rice farms ensures access to feed and water, supporting intensive ranching and value-added processing.
The market will include a modern abattoir and meat processing facility, targeting local and international buyers.
International meat industry expert, Bismark Onme, said the project will add value to Ghana's meat market, creating jobs and reducing dependence on imported meat.
The project has applied to operate under Ghana's 24-hour economy policy to maximise production and distribution.
LASMF plans to utilise cleared weeds from the Lower Volta River as livestock feed, improving cost efficiency and environmental management.
The initiative is expected to create over 500 jobs and contribute positively to Ghana's economy.
