President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, arrived in Lusaka, Zambia, for a three-day state visit at the invitation of his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema.

The president, who is accompanied by his wife, the First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, was warmly received on arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by President Hichilema. Also present to welcome him was Ghana’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Madam Elizabeth Nyantakyi.

During the visit, President Mahama will hold bilateral talks with President Hichilema on issues of mutual interest, including the strengthening of diplomatic relations, enhanced trade and investment cooperation, and the exploration of new areas of collaboration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.

As part of the programme, President Mahama is expected to lay a wreath at Embassy Park in Lusaka in honour of Zambia’s fallen heroes. A major highlight of the visit will be his address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where he is expected to outline Ghana’s vision for a more integrated and prosperous Africa.

The president will also engage with members of the Ghanaian community resident in Lusaka, interacting with compatriots living and working in Zambia. In addition, a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, to be co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema, will be held to deepen economic ties between the two countries.

The dialogue will provide a platform for Ghana to showcase its digital technologies and fintech services to Zambian businesses and government institutions, fostering economic partnerships and facilitating knowledge exchange.

President Mahama’s state visit to Zambia underscores his commitment to advancing a vision of an Africa that is more closely connected through improved transport infrastructure, expanded trade linkages, and the free movement of people and goods.

President Mahama is accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari; and the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Presidency, Mr Stan Xoese Dogbe.

Other members of the delegation are the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister in charge of Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu; the Minister of Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu; the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George; and the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
