Second Occupy BOG demo set for July, 30

A planned demonstration is set to take place on Tuesday, 30 July, 2024 led by the Minority Caucus in Parliament and championed by Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mahama Ayariga, to demand the immediate resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, his deputies, and the entire board of the bank.
The demonstration, which is expected to be a major show of force, comes after a series of allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the central bank.
According to Mr. Ayariga, the governor has refused to provide information on the current cost of the central bank's new head office building, which is being constructed at a cost of over USD250 million.
The initial price tag was around USD89 million, but the cost has since increased to over USD250 million.
The MP has also alleged that the governor had refused to provide information on the price of a piece of land that was reassigned from hosting a clinic to construct a residence for the governor.
The police have confirmed that they are aware of the planned demonstration and are preparing for it.
The demonstration is expected to be peaceful, but authorities are taking no chances, with police deploying extra personnel to maintain order.
The police have asked residents along the planned route to stay indoors and avoid any confrontation with protesters.
Mr. Ayariga has also called on government officials, including the President, demanding action against what he claims is corruption and mismanagement at the central bank.
He has threatened to continue leading protests until his demands are met.
