We feel for the ordinary Ghanaian so we've suspended 10% transport fare hike – Drivers
The National Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has rescinded its decision to increase transport fares by 10 per cent.
The increase was billed to have taken effect from today, Monday, 22 February 2021.
A statement issued by the group on Monday, however, said “upon further consultation with the GPRTU and other stakeholders, the decision has been halted until further notice”.
The group said “although there have been several hikes in the prices of spare parts, lubricants and some taxes at the DVLA, we are taking into consideration the hardship which the ordinary Ghanaian will incur”.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the economy negatively, hence the need to reconsider” the decision, the statement co-signed by GPRTU National Vice-Chair and Secretary Nii Ankrah and Mr Abass, respectively; as well as the Chairman and PRO of the National Concerned Drivers Association Paa Willie and David Agboado, respectively.
“We are calling on all drivers to observe the health protocol aimed at fighting COVID-19”, the group urged, adding: “They should ensure passengers put on their face masks before entering into their vehicles”.
