YEA opens applications for youth in sustainable charcoal production project

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has announced the opening of applications for its latest initiative — the Youth in Sustainable Charcoal Production Project — targeting young people in the Greater Accra Region.
The project aims to train participants to convert coconut waste, corn cobs, rice husks, and other agricultural residues into biochar, a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional charcoal.
According to the Agency, the programme forms part of YEA’s efforts to promote green jobs, reduce environmental pollution, and empower young Ghanaians to build sustainable livelihoods through eco-friendly innovation.
Eligibility criteria include:
Applicants must reside within the Greater Accra Region.
Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
Be willing to establish a business after completing the training.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online via apply.yea.gov.gh.
The deadline for applications is Friday, 17th October 2025.
YEA says the initiative represents a key step toward combining youth empowerment with environmental sustainability, while creating viable opportunities in Ghana’s growing green economy.
