Railways workers threaten nationwide strike over 12 months’ salary arrears

Workers of the Ghana Railways Company Limited (GRCL) are threatening to embark on a nationwide strike if their 12 months’ salary arrears are not paid by the close of Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The workers have also vowed to picket should the government and management fail to meet their demands.
According to union leaders, the prolonged non-payment of salaries has left employees struggling to meet basic needs, despite repeated assurances from management.
They argue that patience has run out and that industrial action is now inevitable unless urgent steps are taken.
Meanwhile, the leadership of GRCL is currently in a crucial meeting with the Minister of Transport and officials of the National Labour Commission (NLC) in an effort to avert the looming strike.
The outcome of the discussions is expected to determine whether railway services across the country will grind to a halt.
