Deputy National Director of A Rocha Ghana, Mr Daryl Bosu, has called for a more radical and uncompromising approach in tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, warning that the menace poses an existential threat to Ghana’s environment and development.

In a statement, Mr. Bosu criticised the previous administration for what he described as “untruths and deep-seated complicity” that crippled the fight against illegal mining and worsened the destruction of Ghana’s lands and water bodies.

He stressed that for the current government to succeed in addressing the crisis, it must demonstrate firm and truthful leadership from the grassroots level of the party to the highest executive office.

“We are not confronted with a simple policy failure, but with a pervasive ecocide that is systematically suffocating the lifeline of every progressive step toward national development and shared prosperity for all Ghanaians,” he warned.

Mr. Bosu urged the government to prioritise integrity, accountability, and enforcement in its anti-galamsey strategy, adding that only a bold, radical, and dedicated approach can safeguard the nation’s environment and secure its future.
