GTEC warns students about 6 unaccredited UG learning centres
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned the public after uncovering six University of Ghana Learning Centres running without the required accreditation, declaring that certificates issued by these centres will not be recognised for job placements, further studies, or professional advancement.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and signed by Dr. Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, GTEC urged parents, prospective students, and employers to confirm the accreditation status of any tertiary institution or study centre before making decisions.
The Commission has also ordered 11 institutions to halt fresh admissions until they satisfy all regulatory requirements. The list includes the Institute of Business Management and Journalism in Kumasi, Rural Development College at Kwaso, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies in Bunso, Kings and Queens Medical College in Akosombo, and Springs College in Labone, among others.
Additionally, 26 institutions were flagged for operating with expired accreditation. These include Abbeam Institute of Technology in Kasoa, Lakeside University College in Accra, ILMA Institute of Science and Technology, Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College in Bawku, and Holy Spirit College of Education in Ho.
GTEC warned that enrolling in institutions without valid accreditation could result in financial loss, invalid qualifications, and long-term career setbacks.
The Commission said the notice forms part of its broader efforts to safeguard the public, uphold standards in tertiary education, and curb exploitation in the sector.
