Adwoa Smart on being mocked for walking, taking trotro and the impact of taxis on her health
Film and theatre veteran Belinda Naa Ode Oku, alias Adwoa Smart, has observed since she got into the habit of taking taxis, reducing her walking time, she has gained weight, “become heavy, and it’s someway [uncomfortable]”.
Speaking to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, she recalled times past when she combined walking with getting on commercial buses called trotro.
“I was doing okay [then],” she remarked.
“Walking is really good. Walking is good exercise. It is better than getting on these vehicles.”
“But,” she bemoaned, “when you walk, people criticise you, and question why you don’t have a car.”
According to Ms Smart, she is often compared to acting stars of today who appear to be enjoying transport luxuries. She said her critiques made it seems as though she lived irresponsibly.
“God has an appointed time for everyone,” she noted has always been her response in such instances.
She added, “Everyone has their unique streams of income, also. Everyone has their unique glories.”
Adwoa Smart intimated notwithstanding her clever pushbacks, the criticism led her to moving about in taxis. She expressed unhappiness with the implications that has had for her health.
“I was taking [taxis] a lot but that’s what I said makes me heavy,” the Abossey Okai-resident added.
