Agya Koo rebukes man for calling Mahama's name during music performance; 'Is today election day?'
In a viral video on social media, Agya Koo has been shown expressing his strong disapproval of someone interrupting his live band performance at a funeral.
It is reported, a man called out former President John Mahama’s name while Agya Koo, born Alexander Kofi Adu, sang.
Agya Koo proudly observed Ghana’s elections are always free of violence and “it’ll never not be so”.
“Whether Nana Addo rules or Mahama does, I’m for the government,” he also asserted, with music accompanying him.
The Akan-speaking stand-up comic assured he did not have anything against the former president and 2024 flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama.
He asserted his love and respect for Mr Mahama, saying: “You don’t love John Mahama more than I do. It’s normal of him to call me for conversations in his hall at home. Do you love him more than me?”
Furthermore, Agya Koo argued his band was inclusive, pointing at NDC sympathisers and an NPP executive; including a vocalist, drummer, keyboardist and guitarist. He added: “We all respect ourselves and work together despite our differences.”
However, the Kumawood star, truncating his performance of Highlife music, indicated he found the unnamed heckler’s actions ill-timed and inappropriate.
“What’s the point of the noise you came to make? Is today the day of election?” Agya Koo, visibly peeved, asked.
In response, a man retorted: “What you said was unacceptable but you’re repeating it. You’re here asking if today is election day. Agya Koo, what you said was wrong.”
A man, in a blue and white fugu, hurried towards Agya Koo who stood under the red canopy sheltering his band. He was, however, promptly stopped by fellow audience members.
When the camera moved to selfie mode, it revealed an unidentified young woman who reported: “Agya Koo says no one should talk about Mahama here. Thus, he’s a person of the NPP. However, we’re all one people.”
Though out of his earshot, she pleaded with Agya Koo to “exercise patience” and focus on the programme.
Agya Koo is said to have dropped the microphone and left the event. When the music, resumed, however, some people also resumed dancing.
The ultra-popular actor is an avid supporter of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) formerly led by President Nana Akufo-Addo. Currently, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is the party's flagbearer. He goes up against former President Mahama on December 7, 2024.
The story is composed from two videos of the same event.
