Austrian Cultural Forum opens in Accra to strengthen Ghana–Austria cultural and creative partnerships
The inauguration of the Austrian Cultural Forum Accra has marked a new phase in cultural diplomacy between Ghana and Austria, with officials describing the centre as a vital link connecting both nations through arts, education and innovation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Accra on February 25, 2025, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MoTCCA), Yussif Issakah Jajah, characterised the forum as “a bridge between continents,” signalling a fresh chapter in bilateral relations.
The event brought together key players from the diplomatic and creative sectors, including Austria’s State Secretary, Sepp Schellhorn, who joined stakeholders to formally launch the initiative.
The forum is expected to function as a hub for collaboration across academia, science and the creative arts.
Planned activities include promoting cultural exchange, sustainable tourism, heritage preservation and joint creative projects between Ghanaian and Austrian institutions.
Officials noted that the Accra centre is Austria’s second cultural forum in Sub-Saharan Africa, a move seen as recognition of Ghana’s reputation as a stable democracy and an emerging cultural hub in the region.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties through creativity, innovation and shared prosperity, positioning the forum as a long-term platform for partnership and people-to-people connections.
