BET’s been ‘downgraded’, Grammys are becoming ‘a regular thing’ – US-based Ghanaian artiste
A US-based Ghanaian artiste has observed unlike before, Black Entertainment Television (BET) and the Recording Academy’s Grammy trophies are no longer big deals.
Called Vudumane, he spoke to Oyokodehye Kofi on Accra 100.5 FM.
“Right now the BET has been downgraded, and it’s not as prized as before,” he said.
“Even the Grammys are becoming a regular thing. People now think just anybody can win a Grammy.
“Even American artistes are not moved by the Grammys anymore.”
The Jungle singer remembered “those days past” when winning a Grammy meant “you’re a top dog – like Jay Z and the rest”.
Rapper Sarkodie has the highest number of BET awards in Ghana, two. However, there is currently a clamour among musicians and fans for Ghana to record its first Grammy award winner.
For the 2025 edition, three Ghanaians are on the nomination list: Afro Roots Reggae originator Rocky Dawumi has his fourth nomination, Blitz the Ambassador has two nominations, and Guilty Beatz has four nominations.
