Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the nominee for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has assured Ghanaians that efforts will be made to transform the challenge of brain drain into a significant opportunity for national development. 

Speaking before the Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, he stated that Ghana will implement strategic policies to convert the loss of skilled professionals into a "brain gain" for the country.  

Ablakwa emphasised that while many highly skilled Ghanaians leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad, their expertise and global networks should be leveraged to benefit national progress. 

“We will ensure that brain drain becomes brain gain by creating the right environment for our professionals abroad to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development,” he assured the committee.  

The Foreign Affairs Ministry nominee further highlighted the importance of fostering stronger ties with the Ghanaian diaspora, encouraging them to invest in key sectors such as education, healthcare, and technology. 

He stressed that policies would be put in place to facilitate knowledge transfer, partnerships, and remittances that could directly impact the economy.  

Mr Ablakwa concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that Ghana does not lose its brightest minds permanently but instead benefits from their experiences and contributions. 

He noted that under his leadership, the Foreign Ministry would actively engage skilled Ghanaians abroad and create opportunities for them to return or remotely support national development initiatives.
