Ghanaian chef and entrepreneur Nhyiraba Zulaiha has completed a remarkable 192-hour cookathon, surpassing the existing Guinness World Records benchmark for the longest cooking marathon and positioning herself for a potential world record pending official verification.

The founder of Nyhiraba's Kitchen concluded the challenge at the Madina Zongo Astro Turf in Accra after more than eight consecutive days of cooking. The marathon began on June 1, 2026, with the aim of breaking the current record and showcasing Ghanaian culinary excellence on the global stage.

Following the completion of the challenge, Chef Zulaiha expressed appreciation to Ghanaians and supporters who stood by her throughout the historic attempt.

The event attracted significant public attention, with hundreds of supporters, food lovers and well-wishers visiting the venue to witness the endurance challenge firsthand. Throughout the marathon, the chef prepared a variety of dishes while adhering to Guinness World Records guidelines.

Beyond pursuing a world record, the cookathon was intended to promote Ghanaian cuisine, inspire aspiring chefs and highlight opportunities within Ghana's growing food industry.

If officially recognised, Chef Zulaiha's achievement will eclipse the current Guinness World Records benchmark of 119 hours, 57 minutes and 16 seconds, set by Irish chef Alan Fisher in Japan in 2023.

Despite completing the challenge, the record attempt remains subject to Guinness World Records' verification process. Officials will review evidence submitted by her team, including video recordings, witness statements, time logs and other required documentation to ensure all guidelines were followed.

Should the attempt be approved, Chef Zulaiha would join a growing list of African chefs gaining international recognition through endurance cooking challenges while helping to promote local cuisine and national pride.

For now, supporters are awaiting the official verdict from Guinness World Records to determine whether Chef Nhyiraba Zulaiha's 192-hour cookathon will be formally recognised as a new world record.
