Dates for Mr Ibu's funeral rites
John Okafor, affectionately called Mr Ibu, will be buried on Friday, June 28, 2024, according to his family.
The funeral will take place in the actor's hometown, Amurri, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria.
“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and a legend, who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter and liveliness.
“We will appreciate your esteemed presence as we lay our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and in-law to rest on June 28, 2024.
“Kindly join us as we share the best and last moments with our icon,” a family statement signed by the late comic star's brother notes.
Mr Ibu passed away on Saturday, March 2, after battling with ill health for some time. Prior, in October 2023, he revealed he was in a struggle with diabetes. His leg was amputated after seven surgeries.
Details of the funeral ceremony:
Tuesday, June 25: A novelty match between Nollywood stars and Rangers International Football Club.
Wednesday, June 26: Mr Ibu’s Night, featuring a candlelight procession and entertainment.
Thursday, June 27: Christian wake ceremony at family compound in Eziokwe, Amurri.
Friday, June 28: Funeral service at 10AM in Amurri, following the transfer of John Okafor's body from the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre.
Sunday, June 30: Thanksgiving services.
